Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- President Joko Widodo has asked the Directorate General of Taxation to continue to coordinate with the General Elections Commission (KPU) to supervise the wealth of candidates running for the posts of regional heads.
"I had a small chat with the finance minister on why the KPU should be given appreciation and on what relevance it has to taxation. However, it turns out it has relevance," President Joko Widodo said at the State Palace here on Wednesday.
Jokowi, as the president is fondly called, stated that the KPU has complete data on the wealth and tax obligations of regional head candidates, including presidential and vice presidential candidates, during elections.
He added that the commission has complete data on the wealth and tax obligations of all candidates who take part in the elections race.
Jokowi also urged both institutions to continue cooperation, which was built closely to select lead candidates found to be clean and free from corruption.
Simultaneous regional head elections will be held in the country on December 9.
Furthermore, Chairman of the KPU Husni Kamil Manik noted that the commission has been in the process of organizing the phases of the regional head elections to be held this year, such as giving individual candidates a chance to gather support, which is perquisite for participation in the elections.
