Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A politician of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Tjahjo Kumolo said the party will punish its cadres reported caught red handed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in a graft case in Bali.
"We will see first, who are the suspects. If it is true it is quite embarrassing. The party will certainly punish them," Tjahjo, who is home affairs minister said here on Friday.
He said the party is still seeking confirmation about the reports , adding the party received conflicting report.
Some reports said those arrested were lawmakers from the ruling party. A KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha confirmed that KPK arrested a number of suspects in Bali on Thursday, but he gave no names.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Maluku branch of the party Edwin Adrian protested wrong report saying that he was one of the suspects nabbed by KPK.
Edwin said Eva Sundari,a member of the party central executive board, committed the blunder by talking to the press without seeking confirmation. "I was in Bali leading a delegation to the party's national congress," he said .
The party held its national congress in Bali ending on Thursday. Edwin said he would filed his protest against Eva with the party's boss Megawati Soekanroputri. "The report hurts me badly as a party regional leader and as a head of a family," he said. (WDY)
