Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said close
cooperation between the military and elements of civilian in Thailand is
needed to restore the political situation there.
He made the statement following recent situation in Thailand where
the Thai Army announced a military coup on Thursday (May 22) afternoon.
"Without intending to interfere in the internal affairs of
Thailand, as part of the ASEAN Community, in particular ASEAN Political
and Security Community, and in accordance with the Charter of ASEAN
which emphasizes adherence to democratic principles and constitutional
government, the developments in Thailand merit Indonesias and ASEANs
attention," Marty said in a written statement received by ANTARA on
Thursday.
"In this connection, Indonesia calls on the Armed Forces of
Thailand and various relevant civilian elements to work together in a
reconciliatory atmosphere to quickly restore the political situation in
Thailand," asserts the Indonesian Foreign Minister.
Marty added he will communicate with representatives from Myanmar
as Chair of ASEAN to mobilize ASEANs contribution to establishing
condition conducive to the restoration of political situation in
