Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Economic and monetary upheavals in European and American countries may lead to a drop in Indonesia's exports which will in turn affect its competitive edge, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said.
"The decline in exports will in turn have a secondary impact on the economic, industrial and business conditions. The accumulation of all sluggish economic, industrial and business conditions will be the ever increasingly lower competitive edge of our country," Kadin Chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, businesspeople particularly those living outside Jakarta are trying to deal with unfavorable business atmosphere.
In this context, they are pinning their hope on the banking industry's assistance in lowering production costs as a result of rising transportation costs, he said. (*/M038)
