Jayapura, Papua (Antara Bali)- Chief of the 17th Cenderawasih Military Command Major General Hinsa Siburian confirmed that one of his officers was shot dead by a separatist in Mamberamo Raya on Monday.

"It is true. An army officer was shot dead while in Namuni kampong, Central Mamberamo District," the regional military chief stated here, Tuesday.

The victim is identified as Major Jhon De Fretes. His body was moved to Jayapura.

De Fretes was along with two colleagues, officers Avan and Simon when they were attacked by a separatist group. Avan and Simon survived the attack.  (WDY)
