Moscow (Antara Bali) - Russia offers to build a nuclear power plant for Indonesia.
"We are ready if Jakarta asks us to build a nuclear plant in Indonesia," deputy director for research of Kurchatov Institute, Prof. Yaroslav I Shtrombakh, said in a news conference here on Friday.
Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy which is a national research center working in collaboration with Russian nuclear state company Rosatom.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said it has wrapped up the road map for a nuclear power plant with a generating capacity of 5,000 megawatts.
Prof. Yaroslav Shtrombakh said Russia has high nuclear technology. Russia has built disaster resistant nuclear reactor.
"We can build energy reactor with specifications as required by the customers," he said.
However, head of the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), Djarot S Wisnubroto, said cooperation with Rosatom is to improve the competence of human resources and development of infrastructure for nuclear power plant.
"Cooperation in development of nuclear power plant infrastructure such as in economic and technology aspect is not binding that Indonesia has to use their technology in building a nuclear power plant," Djarot said.
The decision to build the country's first nuclear power plant is in the hand of President Joko Widodo.
"If the President said 'go nuclear' yes we would go nuclear," Djarot said.
The plan to build a nuclear power plant is outlined in the Law No.17/2007 on Long Term National Development Plan(RPJPN) 2005- 2025. Based on the law, in 2019, Indonesia, should already have a nuclear power plant.
Rosatom supplies 33 percent of power requirement in Europe including Russia. It leads in the global market of renewable nuclear technology.
Rosatom has a 36 percent share of the market of uranium enrichment .
The company will build at least 38 units of nuclear power plant including 29 units outside Russia. The company controls 17 percent of the world market of nuclear fuel.
Russia is the only country having an active and passive systems of nuclear power plant security. (WDY)
