Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries
(KKP) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
will extend their cooperation to minimize fish theft.
"Cooperation with NOAA has expired and we will extend it to
overcome fish theft cases," Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries
Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said Tuesday.
The minister said that cooperation with NOAA had also been held in
the field of research using the Okeanos ship belonging to NOAA. The ship
was used to map out waters in the sea which was difficult to be
accessed.
He said that illegal fishing was a serious problem which took place
not only in Indonesia but also in other countries so that cooperation
with several parties was needed to overcome it.
The minister explained that cooperation with NOAA so far has been
carried out and developed well with concrete results such as bilateral
cooperation in the fields of marine affairs and fisheries.
Cicip said the extension of the cooperation would also indicate
that Indonesia had the commitment to preserving the environment,
particularly the marine sector.
