Gorontalo (Antara Bali) - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Gorontalo city in Gorontalo Province, northern Sulawesi island, on Tuesday at 11.34 am local time.
"I was panic-stricken when the quake occurred, and I immediately rushed out of the building," Nita, a visitor of Gorontalo's shopping mall, said.
The meteorological, climatology and geophysics agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located at 1.75 degrees of northern latitude, 122.95 degrees of eastern longitude, around 105 km northeast of North Gorontalo, and at a depth of 10 km below sea level.
Indonesia is located in the Pacific " Ring of Fire ," where earthquakes and volcanic activities are common. (*/DWA)
