Bandarlampung (Antara Bali) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted the waters off the southwestern coast of Tanggamus district, Lampung province, on Sunday night, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BNMKG).
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 09.21 p.m. was in the Sunda Strait about 100 km southwest of Tanggamus or 273 km northwest of Jakarta at a depth of 10 km, the head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung province, Chirsmanto said.
The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, he said.
Earlier, a 4.7-magnitude undersea earthquake shook neighboring Bengkulu province on Sunday at 09.11 p.m.
The epicenter of the quake was located 96 km northwest of Seluma area in Bengkulu province at a depth of 26 km, the head of the Kepahiang meteorology, climatology and geophysics station, Dadang said.(*/T007)
