Volcanic Earthquake Jolts Dieng Plateau

Purwokerto (Antara Bali) - A volcanic earthquake jolted Kepakisan Village in Dieng Plateau of Banjarnegara District, Central Java Province, on Monday evening and made some local people worry.

"The earthquake was minor. However, several people rushed out of their houses in panic," said Andri Sulistyo, an officer of the Disaster Emergency Response Post of Timbang Crater, here on Monday.

According to him, some inhabitants were still traumatic due to the previous earthquake that occurred on Friday and damaged hundreds of houses.

"The Center for Volcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation  (PVMBG) recorded that the intensity of the earthquake was MMI I and II," Andri said.

Meanwhile, Chief of Bandung PVMBG Surono said frequent volcanic earthquakes are expected to occur in Timbang Crater of Dieng Plateau that includes Sumberejo Village, Batur Sub-district, Banjarnegara District. (IGT)
