Kuta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia has proposed the creation of a framework for anti-terrorism cooperation among ASEAN member countries at an ASEAN meeting on terrorism in Kuta, Bali, a police official said.
The meeting, officially called the fifth Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crimes (SOMTC) Working Group on Counter Terrorism, is participated in by senior officials from ASEAN countries and representatives of institutions handling terrorism issues.
"We have proposed the framework to all the other delegates in the hope it can be made the basis for future cooperation in counter terrorism," chief of the National Police`s criminal investigation department, Commissioner General Ito Sumardi, said here on Thursday.
He said the proposed framework would comprise not only joint programs to fight terrorism but also a Comprehensive Plan of Action on Counter Terrorism (ACPOA on CT).
Ito said Indonesia as one of the "lead shepherds" in handling terrorism had a high commitment to supporting cooperation in counter terrorism among ASEAN member countries.
"The main focus of the meeting is to formulate activities to be put on SOMTC's working plan for 2010-2012," he said adding that handling non-traditional security issues such as terrorism should be one of ASEAN's main priorities.(*)
