The chief of the Sangir Batanghari police sector, Adjunct Commissioner Benu Alam, said here on Wednesday Alwis (35) and Buyung Pagung (30) were buried while working in a 6-meter wide pit formerly used for gold prospecting using machines.
"They and four others were prospecting gold in the pit but the four suffered only minor injuries," he said.
He said the landslide at the pit occurred following rain in the area since Tuesday morning.
He said Alwis died on the scene while Buyung Pagun died while he was about to be brought to a community health center. Benu said there are a lot of gold prospecting activities in the area. (*/DWA)
