Jayapura, Papua (Antara Bali) - Landslide following days of incessant rains in Jayapura municipality on Thursday (Jan 16) killed a five-year old daughter, Nady Stefani Hitijaubessy, at 1.30 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
Chief of Jayapura police office Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Alfred Papare confirmed here on Thursday that Nady was sleeping well in the back room of her house when the landslide attacked, so she was not survived.
On the occasion, her father Fransisco as one of the rescuers, was on duty at the Papua command post of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Body that is away of the house.
Meanwhile, Nady's mother, Titin (30) along with her younger child were rescued.
The local police chief also said, Nady's body was evacuated about two hours after the landslide incident, adding that Nady's aunt, Atik (47) suffered injuries due to the landslide.
In the meantime, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesperson for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said recently that some parts of Indonesia could be hit by landslides and floods before April 2013.
"A total of 315 districts and cities in Indonesia could be hit by floods. 60.9 million people could be affected as a result. In addition, 270 districts and cities in Indonesia could be hit by flash floods," he said. (*/DWA/T007)
