Cannes (Antara Bali) - Indonesia is offering more than 50 films at
"Marche du Film", an international film market held as part of the
Cannes Film Festival at Cannes, in France, from May 11 to 22.
The films offered include those that have been screened at
theaters, such as "Siti", "November 10", "A Copy of Mind", and "A letter
from Prague", in addition to "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" as well as those
that have not been shown, head of the film development facility of the
Film Development Center of the Ministry of Culture and Education, Prima
Duria, said to Antara Saturday.
The films that have not yet been shown on offer include "Rudy
Habibie" which shows the history of Indonesias third president BJ
Habibie, and "My Stupid Boss" and "Undercover".
"Prenjak" one of the Indonesian films that was shown in the
Semaine De La Critique Cannes is scheduled to be screened thrice on May
15 and 16.
La Semaine de la Critique is a program running parallel with the
main event of the Cannes Film Festival which is the Official Selection,
head of the overseas festivals of the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) Robby
Ertanto said.
"Prenjak", a short film produced by young director Wregas
Bhanuteja, has successfully been entered at the Cannes Film Festival
2016 through La Semaine de la Critique or International Critics Week.
"In the Year of Monkey" has also been selected in the short film category of the La Semaine de la Critique.
Another Indonesian film - Marlina, the Murder in Four Acts - has
been chosen at the LAtelier Cinefoundation selection. It is produced by
Mouly Surya.
La Semaine de la Critique was initiated by the association of
French film critics at Cannes in 1962 and was aimed at finding new
potential cineastes from across the world.
Selling Indonesian films at the Cannes film market is not easy,
Robby Ertanto, a graduate from the Jakarta Institute of Arts, said.
The Indonesia delegation to the Cannes Film Festival include best
director at 2015 Indonesian Film Festival Joko Anwar, the best main
actress at 2015 FFI, Andi Mutiara Pertiwi Basro, also known as Tara
Basro, Wregas Bhanuteja, director of short film Prenjak, and Yohanes
Budyambara, an actor of the Cannes de la Critique, who is part of the
