Makassar, S Sulawesi (Antara Bali)- The death toll from the capsized MV Marina climbed to 63 on Sunday as authorities still look for five missing passengers, and have managed to rescue 40 survivors.
"A total of 103 people have been evacuated since the search efforts over the last five days," Brigadier General Ivan Ahmad, the operation and exercise director of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), said here, Friday.
The rescue teams have so far evacuated a total of 103 people, comprising 40 survivors and 63 dead bodies.
MV Marina set off from Tobakun Port in North Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, at around 11 a.m. local time on December 19. Due to bad weather, the boat was later hit by high waves.
The boat developed leakage and at around 4 p.m. local time lost contact before it finally sank in Bone Bay.
The fiber boat was heading for Bansalae Port, Wajo District, South Sulawesi Province, when the accident happened.
KM Marina was carrying a total of 118 people, including 91 adult and 19 child passengers. (WDY)
