Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Three ministers are expected to attend the anniversary of the World Rabies Day which would be centered in Unggasan village, Kutu Selatan subdistrict, Bandung district, Bali, on Friday, a local official said.

"The three ministers who will attend the function are Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih and Agriculture Minister Suswono," Head of Publication and Documentation Affairs of the Bali regional government, I Ketut Teneng said here on Thursday.

He said that Bali would host the world rabies day for the second time on Friday after it was entrusted to organize and host the same event last year.

The activities are expected to give positive impact on the handling of rabies disease in Bali and to free the international tourist resort province from rabies in 2012, Ketut said.

He said that various efforts made to eliminate the disease in Bali included the creation of rabies centers to handle those suffering from the bite of rabies virus carrier animals.

A total of 43 rabies centers have been built in the Public Health Care Centers (Pusksmas) and hospitals. The number of rabies centers in Bali is expected to increase further so that all people suffering from dog bites could be treated.

Ketut said that the population of dogs in Bali was estimated at 500,000, of which 360,000 had been given vaccinations.(*)
