Denpasar (Antara Bali) -- The Denpasar district court in Bali province sentenced a man to four years in jail on Monday for possessing 0.24 grams of crystal meth.
The court also ordered the defendant, identified as Patar Pardede, to pay a fine of Rp800 million or face another three months` imprisonment.
Judge Firman Pangabean, who presided over the session, said the defendant was charged with violating article 112 paragraph 1 of law number 35 of 2009 regarding narcotics.
"The defendant has unrightfully and unlawfully possessed, kept and controlled class I narcotics in breach of article 112 paragraph 1 of law number 35 of 2009 regarding narcotics," Pangabean stated.
The sentence is equal to the prosecutor`s demand.
Police arrested Pardede at his rented house in Nakula Street in Kuta, Bali, on September 6 last year on charge of possessing 0.24 grams of crystal meth. He was later taken to the Badung district police station for questioning.
Pardede admitted to buying the contraband from an unidentified person for Rp1 million.
Based on the result of a urine test conducted on September 12 last year, he tested negative for narcotics.
The defendant, who was not accompanied by his lawyer, accepted the verdict. (WDY)
