Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A member of the House of Representatives' Commission IV, Herman, regretted the government's plan to raise the subsidized fuel price because it is feared to burden the lower class people such as farmers.
"Because the increase in subsidized fuel prices will increase the cost of agricultural production and distribution," he said here on Thursday.
Besides, the increase in fuel subsidized prices will cause a rise in the prices of agricultural supporting goods such as fertilizers and pesticides.
"It will certainly reduce the level of the farmers' welfare," he said.
The subsidized fuel price hike plan was mentioned by the President in a dialogue with the business and financial community in the Thomson Reuters Newsmaker event in Building One Raffles Quay, Singapore, on April 23, 2013.
According to the president, the subsidized fuel price increase is the government's effort to reduce the subsidy burden. (*/DWA)
