Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin targets Bali to become one of the international medical tourism destinations.
Sadikin conveyed the statement at the first stone-laying ceremony of the Estetik Center Building at the Sanglah Central General Hospital (RSUP) here on Friday.
"In accordance with the president's instruction, we will build a new industry (in Bali) apart from the tourism industry. What is closer to natural and cultural tourism is medical," he remarked.
To support this plan, the government will build four health service centers of international standard in the Bali region.
"We are building four centers. First, construction of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/BUMN) Hospital in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, which is located in the Sanur special economic zone. Secondly, the construction of this special aesthetic unit at Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar," Sadikin revealed.

The other two comprise biotechnology development at Udayana University of Bali and hospital construction in Kura Kura Bali (Bali Turtle Island) in collaboration with international private parties.
Sadikin highlighted that the marketing target of Bali's medical tourism is foreign tourists, especially from Asia and also Balinese people.
Meanwhile, Director of Medical, Nursing and Support Services at Sanglah Hospital, Ketut Ariawati, remarked that construction of the Estetik Building would be completed on December 28, 2022.
Ariawati elaborated that according to the plan, Estetik building has five floors. The floors, from the lowest to the highest, will function as parking lots and for MCU (Medical Check-Up) and cosmetic or beauty services, while a floor is dedicated to cooperation with the Korea Chain Hospital (still under exploration), operating rooms, and an international-standard spa.
Ariawati stated that construction of the Estetik Building and its medical equipment had utilized a budget of Rp230 billion sourced from the State Budget (APBN) and some from the management of Sanglah Hospital.
