Jambi (Antara Bali) - Jambi province's River Basin Management Agency (BPDAS) has rehabilitated at least 100 hectares of mangrove forest in Tanjung Jabung Timur district.
"The rehabilitation was conducted in 2011, in anticipation of more damage to the forest area along the Batanghari river," the agency's chief, Garendel Siboro, said here on Monday.
The condition of forest damage along the Batanghari river basin is a matter of concern, because it is dangerous for the ecology. Besides, many people rely on the river.
"Therefore, we are continuously rehabilitating the Batang Hari riverbank," Garendel explained.
He said the forest was being badly managed, because many forest management companies were operating recklessly and harming the Batanghari River area.(IGT)
