Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The government planned to revise Law No 8 of 1985 on mass organizations (Ormas) to make them in line with the latest developments following the reform era.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono disclosed the plan in a meeting with journalists at the State Palace in Jakarta Monday night.
"Our law on mass organizations is a product of 1985, from 1985 to 2012 including the reform era many things had happened," he said.
With increasing freedom in line with the changing times, he said, it is as if residents and public organizations can do as they wish, triggering communal conflicts and horizontal clashes.
"So it is good that times had changed, and challenges have also developed, horizontal and communal clashes are easily triggered," he said.
A revision of the Law on mass organizations, he added,is needed to help public organizations to carry out their activities smoothly but under the regulations to avoid clashes and other violent action.(IGT/T007)
