Kuta (Antaranews Bali) - Some 4,000 volunteers, under the coordination of the Environment and Hygiene Office of Badung District in Bali, cleaned up garbage at coastal beaches on Friday, prior to the start of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank (IMF-WB) Annual Meeting 2018.
"We have carried out this action as part of a series of Badung`s commitments to help in the success of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting 2018, which will be held in October this year," said Putu Eka Merthawan, head of Badung`s Environment and Hygiene office.
Putu further said that some 4,000 volunteers involved in the cleaning of the garbage including civil servants, personnel of the military and police, and senior high school students, adding that the activity was entitled "Kuta Beach clean without plastic waste".
According to Putu, the garbage cleaning also reflected the spirit of Badung community in welcoming the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Annual Meeting, which will take place in the Nusa Dua area.
Putu Eka Merthawan also said that the garbage cleanup filled 10 trucks with 20 tons of garbage, dominated by plastic waste.
"We plan to hold a clean beach activity every two weeks, which will be held in all places related to the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting 2018," he noted.
The International Monetary Fund and World Bank (IMF-WB) Annual Meeting 2018 will be held in Bali from Oct 8 to 14. (WDY)
