Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - More than 400 participants are taking part in the international conference on combating bribery in international business transactions held by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on May 10 and 11, 2011.
"The conference is attended by more than 400 participants from 35 different countries and 10 international institutions," KPK chief Busyro Muqoddas said here Tuesday.
He also said that the conference is also attended by non-governmental institutions, government representatives of several other countries, national and international business circles, legal practitioners, and anti-corruption observers.
The two-day international conference, he said, is an attempt to adapt active bribing policies of the Organisation for Economic and Co-operation Development (OECD).
The international conference was also scheduled to be attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and House Speaker Marzuki Alie.
It is also attended by 10 cabinet ministers, the Attorney General and the Police Chief.
Earlier the Director of KPK Commission and Institution Development Cooperation Sujarnako said in the beginning KPK planned only 220 participants for the international conference, but it had been increased to 400 to meet the great and enthusiastic interest in the event from many countries.
He said China has already sent 12 delegates, the US eight, and Malaysia one.
He said Indonesia became regional chairman for corruption eradication. This needs to be preserved, from freedom of the press to ancicorruption drives.(*)
