Bandarlampung (Antara Bali) - A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook Sabang city in Aceh province on Saturday, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 02.18 p.m. was in the sea about 40 km northeast of Sabang at a depth of 225 km, Chrismanto, head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung province said.
The temblor did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, he said.
A 8.9-magnitude undersea earthquake and subsequent tsunami devastated part of Aceh province on December 26, 2004, killing more than 190 thousand people.(*/T007)
