Ambon (Antara Bali) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted the eastern Indonesian city of Ambon in Maluku province on Thursday afternoon, according to local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency report.
The agency reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 5.62 degrees southern latitude and 129.26 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 243 km under the sea level.
Because the epicenter was situated some 244 km southeast of the city, the people did not feel the magnitude of the earthquake and did their routine as usual.
Maluku province is prone to tectonic earthquake and tsunami because of its position at the meeting point of the Pacific, IndoAustralia, and Eurasian plates.(*/T007)
