Jimbaran (Antara Bali) - Udayana University (Unud), Bali, held a meeting of the ASEAN European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) to boost efforts to internationalize education and research cooperation.
The rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ketut Suastika, here on Monday explained that the meeting was expected to lead a cooperation in promoting education program, especially in member countries.
"ASEA UNINET aims to improve the education program and establish international research," he said.
During the meeting Suastika discussed a paper entitled "Cooperation within ASEA Uninet," and is followed by a presentation by the Ambassador of Austria to Indonesia, Andreas Karabaczek.
Other academics who participated in the forum are Prof. A Min Tjoa, who is the Director of the Institute of Software Technology and Interactive Systems of the Vienna University of Technology, and Prof. Carla Locatelli, the Regional Coordinator of ASEA Uninet for European region.
The biennial meeting features scientific papers from various fields of study, including economics, science and technology, culture and music, social, health, medical and maritime.
Researchers from Austria, the Philippines, Indonesia, England, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam came up with 67 scientific papers.
Five universities will become a member of ASEA Uninet, thereby increasing the number of members to 75 universities from 17 countries, including those from ASEAN and Europe.
University of Udayana is the only higher educational institution from Bali and eastern Indonesia that is included in ASEA Uninet.
Other Indonesian universities are University of Indonesia, Airlangga University, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Diponegoro University, University of North Sumatra and Surabaya Institute of Technology.
The ASEAN European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) is a network of universities, consisting of European and South-East Asian universities with the goal of promoting continuous internationalization of education and research.
ASEA-UNINET was founded in 1994 by universities from Austria, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as Austrian-South East Asian University Network and consists today of more than 70 universities from 16 different countries. (WDY)
