Ambon, Maluku (Antara Bali) - Ambon city in Maluku province is a suitable location for opening a pilot Dutch football school in Indonesia, Chairman of the Netherlands Soccer School Eric Reijnders stated.
"Of some cities we have surveyed, Ambon is suitable for opening a pilot football school. This is not because of the similarities between the Netherlands and Ambon but solely to train the young people of Ambon to become talented players," he noted here on Wednesday (Jan. 20).
He remarked that the school's management is interested in the talent of young football players in Maluku that needs to be honed further in order to improve Indonesia's performance in the sport.
According to Reijnders, the recent visit of the football school's management to Ambon was also used to communicate with the Maluku governor, Ambon mayor, and the Education Office.
"We have spoken to the administrative heads, and now, they are ready to open the football school," he revealed.
Reijnders stated that the football school to be set up is a regular school, and the students will practice football during the break sessions.
The management has selected 400 students from 10 schools in Ambon to be trained at the school. The children fall in the age group of six to 12 years.
Reijnders explained that as part of the next stage, a competition will be held to gauge the talent of the students according to their age.
"We are optimistic that the football talent in the children of Ambon will develop well with practice and experience," he added. (WDY)
