Earth Hour is a voluntary action that serves a symbol of a commitment to lifestyle changes, which are more environmentally friendly.
Based on estimation, if 10 percent of Jakarta's inhabitants observed Earth Hour by turning off electricity power for an hour, 300 megawatt hours (MWh) of power can be saved or is equivalent to shutting down a power plant for the same time period.
Globally, 172 countries participated in Earth Hour this year. Indonesia had observed Earth Hour for the first time in 2009. (WDY)
