Kabanjahe, N Sumatra (Antara Bali) - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo distributed aid packages to Mount Sinabung eruption evacuees at KNPI Building in Karo district during his visit on Wednesday.
The evacuees who have been living in the shelter provided by the government for almost a year were very happy receiving the packages which were distributed by the president in the company of First Lady Iriana Jokowi and social affairs minister Indar Parawansa.
President Jokowi was only an hour in the district but had received warm welcome from residents.
The aid package contains rice, sugar, milk, noodle and cash worth Rp500,000 and is distributed to each family.
Besides that President Jokowi also distributed "Family Welfare Card", "Indonesia Smart Card" and "Indonesia Health Card" to get free education and health service.
A total of 299 families or 729 people are currently accommodated at KNPI Building while the total number of Sinabung evacuees reaches 1,019 families or 3,287 people spreading in 14 shelters in Karo and Kabanjahe districts.
A refugee from Bekerah village, Juria Beru Ginting (65) thanked the President for the aid.
This was Jokowi's first tour, following his inauguration on October 20. (WDY)
