Sumbawa Besar (Antara Bali) - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, now the chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), has asked the warring community of Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to renew its bond of brotherhood.
"We are all brothers," Kalla said when giving advice and issuing an appeal to the victims of violence in Sumbawa Besar on Saturday.
The former vice president, along with Sumbawa-born Muhammadiyah Chairman Din Syamsuddin, were in Sumbawa Besar to visit those who fled following recent violence.
Kalla and Syamsudin spoke with the victims, religious figures, community leaders, and local government officials to find solutions to end the violence that erupted on Tuesday, leaving scores of houses and motor vehicles on fire.
"We hope that the situation will return to normal in the next two or three days and the refugees can return to their homes," Kalla said, adding that the government would help rebuild those houses which were destroyed during the violence. (IGT/T007)
