Kuta (Antaranews Bali) - The I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has installed 10 units of automated immigration gates to improve its services ahead of the International Monetary Fund - World Bank (IMF-WB) annual meeting to be held in the resort island.
"We installed 10 units of the auto-gate immigration facility. We did not have such a facility before," Co-General Manager of the airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport Sigit Herdiyanto said in Badung, Bali, on Tuesday.
Herdiyanto said four auto-gates would be installed in the arrival terminal and six units in the departure terminal.
The facility, he added, is expected to improve immigration services for foreign tourists, including the delegates of the IMF-WB annual meeting scheduled to be held from October 8-14.
The airport operator has also installed six X-ray smart lanes, which are more sophisticated and efficient compared with the existing X-ray facilities, as well as an additional 45 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
The state-run airport operator has allocated a budget of Rp3 billion for the facilities, Herdiyanto said, adding that the facility is a long-term investment for the airport.
In addition to the facilities, the airport is widening its aprons on the western and eastern sides to ensure more parking area for large jets.
It would also move the waste processing facility, VVIP building, and the Base Ops of Ngurah Rai Air Base.
The company was set to disburse Rp2.2 trillion for the expansion of the airport.
The IMF-WB high-level meeting will see Bali welcome 17,000 delegates from 189 countries. Guests will include heads of state, central bank governors and ministers, among others. (WDY)
