Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Alliance of Indonesian Student Executive Boards (BEM) held a peaceful rally here on Sunday by conveying the people`s seven-point demand to two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates.
"We want to test the competency of the two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates to meet the people`s demand," the coordinator of All-Indonesia Student Executive Board Diki Saefurrahman said.
The seven-point demand dubbed "Tunas Rakyat" included a call for the settlement of all corruption cases, the creation of corruption-, collusion, and nepotism-free government, the revitalization of farm product distribution chain, and the improvement of agricultural productivity.
The demand also included the nationalization of oil and gas blocks and other mining concessions to the country in the interests of the nation.
The students further called for efforts to rescue the Indonesian economy in the face of ASEAN free market which will start in 2015.
They also pressed for the improvement of social insurance system both at the levels of bureaucracy and implementation unit and the protection of women and children.
Diki said the seven-point demand was discussed at the national working meeting of All-Indonesia Student Executive Boards Association which ended here on Sunday.
The students represented 140 institutes of higher learning across the country. (WDY)
