Kuta (Antara Bali) -Ninety-three percent of revenue in the telecommunications sector goes to five companies with the biggest recipient being Telkomsel, Communication and Informatics Minister Tifatul Sembiring said here on Saturday.

Based on data  he had received, the five companies are Telkomsel, PT XL Axiata, Indosat, Telkom and Bakrie.

He said Telkomsel was the biggest recipient of the revenue based on the number of its customers that had reached 100 million people.

"The number is almost 40 percent of the number of cellphone users in the country numbering 178 million," he said.

Regarding use of Internet service in the country the minister said right now the number of users is recorded at 45 million.

Telkomsel president director Sarwoto Atmosuroto said his company  recorded 100 million customers when the company was 16 years old.

"The achievement has made the company the seventh biggest telecommunications company in the world," he said.

He said the growth of the company's service product users was at an average of 40 percent a year.

He predicted the number would continue to rise as telecommunications service has now become an important need of the people.(*)
