Bali Sets Role Model for Population Development

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali which has successfully controlled population growth serves as a role model for other provinces in Indonesia in carrying out family planning programs, acting head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Sudibyo Alimoeso said.

"Bali has been quite successful in controlling population growth. Hopefully, the achievement will encourage other provinces in the country to follow suit," he said when inaugurating a prosperous family service post (PPKS) on Thursday.

Thanks to its success in implementing family planning programs through a so-called 'banjar' (hamlet or sub-village) system, Bali has become a target of researches by family planning experts from the rest of the world, he said.

"Foreign family planning experts who study family planning in Indonesia have often chosen Bali and Yogyakarta as a target of researches. They hope the success achieved by the two provinces can be applied to their country," he said.

A number of countries, including Tunisia and Bangladesh have successfully implemented family planning programs after conducting a comparative study in Bali, he said.

He said the presence of prosperous family service post (PPKS) is not intended to compete with public health service post (puskesmas). (*/M038)
