Sukabumi, W Java (Antara Bali) - Chief of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General Budi Waseso has expressed a hope that the Indonesian government will implement strict policy of the Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte on drug abuse eradication.
"If the policy of (the Philippines' president) is implemented, we are sure that the number of drug abusers in this country will drop drastically," Budi Waseso said here on Sunday.
According to him, stern action as that implemented by the Philippines' President must be applied, otherwise it will be difficult to eradicate the drug abuse.
Although President Joko Widodo has never forgiven (no clemency) against the drug kingpins in death row inmates, he considered that's not enough, because there are many legal loopholes that could be exploited by the drug kingpins.
In addition, Duterte's measure that makes the drug kingpins as living in hell is a right step, because the drug kingpins' acts could damage the country's future generation.
Therefore, while Indonesia has been declared in the level of emergency status on drug abuse, all parties must declare war to the drug abuse, especially the kingpins, and if necessary, do not give (the drug kingpins) the slightest opportunity to breathe comfortably, Waseso stated.
"If such a policy is implemented, I will stay at the forefront of the battle to combat the drug dealers who have damaged the nation's future generation," he pointed out, adding that some 40-50 people in Indonesia died due to the drug abusers.
Thus, the better thing is to eliminate all the drug kingpins, for those who are really addicted will be given rehabilitation.
"Right now we're at war with drugs, because other nations who wish to seize this Indonesia will no longer have to take up arms but only by distributing the illicit goods," Budi Waseso added. (WDY)
