Padang, West Sumatra (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's Health Minister Nila Djuwita F. Moeloek has urged all parties in the health sector to be prepared to compete in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
"Although clear standards have yet to be defined on the implementation of the AEC in the health sector, but we must always be prepared," Moeloek remarked while opening a West Sumatra provincial health coordination meeting at Hotel Mercure on Sunday night.
The minister noted that at this time, the people of ASEAN countries can travel to and from other countries to gain access to health services, but she opined that doctors in the countries are not necessarily willing to participate in it.
"But the important aspect is that we have to continue to improve our quality to compete," Moeloek said, adding that participants at the meeting can exchange information to improve their knowledge regarding the health sector.
The West Sumatra provincial health coordination meeting being held from Sunday to Monday is being attended by some 350 health workers and doctors. (WDY)
