Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo said the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group are so prestigious that he warmly welcomes the appointment of Indonesia to host them in 2018.
"We warmly welcome them as they are prestigious meetings where all financial and central bank regulators all over the world will gather," Martowardojo said here on Tuesday.
Delegations from 188 member states will attend the meetings, with each of them comprising 10-20 officials, he said.
"So this is great trust for Indonesia. Normally, representatives of large banks also attend such meetings to meet with their partners," he said.
He said Indonesia, along with Egypt and Senegal had vied to host the 2018 annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group before Indonesia was appointed to host them.
"It has been decided that Indonesia is the host of the meetings," he said.
The annual meetings are usually held for two consecutive years at the IMF and World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. and every third year in another member country. The 2015 annual meetings will take place in Lima, Peru in October this year.
Martowardojo said the appointment of Indonesia as the host of the 2018 annual 1meetings showed that it enjoyed the trust from 188 IMF and World Bank member states.
The Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, civil society, media and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, jobs and growth, economic development, aid effectiveness and climate change.
