"We need infrastructure development in new areas to develop 1 million homes that will be built for people in the low-income group," Chairman of REI Eddy Hussy said here on Tuesday night.
Currently, there are many new land areas for constructing houses but lack supporting infrastructure, he noted.
The REI urged the government to demarcate specific zones for lands that will be used to build low-cost housing projects.
"The taxable value of property (NJOP) in the special zone has been determined and set, so that there is no increase in the price of land," he claimed.
He mentioned that the construction of houses for low-income people will be carried out across Indonesia.
"Obviously, these land areas are adjacent to residential areas and not far from the workplace," Hussy stated.
Regarding BI's policy that will ease the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio for property, Hussy remarked that the policy will help to accelerate growth in the property sector following the slowdown in housing loans (KPR) and apartment ownership loans (KPA).
He also called on the government to ease the rule that prohibits financing ownership of second and successive homes that are under construction (indent).
"If the government can approve our proposal, it will boost the construction of houses," he added. (WDY)
