Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Fahri Hamzah has encouraged the government to formulate a comprehensive disaster management system.
"This will ensure that the government is able to systematically resolve problems in disaster-prone regions," Hamzah said here on Thursday.
If there is a comprehensive proposal for disaster management, the DPR will include it in the budget. "If this can be realized immediately, the parliament can deliberate over it and frame a proposal for the 2016 budget," he pointed out.
Without a comprehensive measure, Hamzah noted, efforts to prevent disasters will not be effective. "I expect the parliament to also form a special team to push for the implementation of a disaster prevention policy," he stated.
Furthermore, a member of Commission VII of the DPR, Abdul Fikri, has urged the ministers of environment and forestry, social affairs, public works, and agriculture, as well as the police and military forces, to establish a disaster management committee to formulate comprehensive regulations.
"We have urged all stakeholders to establish a disaster management committee to formulate these comprehensive regulations," he affirmed. (WDY)
