Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Institute of National Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) develops a micro satellite named Lapan-Orari (A-2) which is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2012 with a main mission to observe the earth, an official said here Thursday.
"The satellite has been loaded with an RGB video camera surveillance, Automatic Identification System Ships (AIS) Detection System and Communications equipment Orari for disaster management," Deputy of Lapan for Aerospace Technology Dr.Ing Soewarto Hardhienata said.
He said the launch will still be using a satellite launcher rocket PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) owned by India from the launch station Sriharikota, India, and placed in an equatorial orbit to pass through Indonesia every 97 minutes, up to 14 times a day.
The of micro satellite program 2008-2013 was developed at Lapan's Center of Satellite Technology by applying the knowledge and experience gained during the development of micro satellite Lapan-Tubsat.
Lapan has successfully developed a satellite, a micro-class satellite weighing 70 kg called Lapan-Tubsat or satellite Lapan-A1 satellite, under the cooperation of the Technishe Universitaet of Germany in Berlin launched in January 2007 with an Indian rocket in the country. (*/R-M038/T007)
