Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The implementation of an anti-dumping duty is expected to not significantly affect revenues but the policy is needed to protect domestic industries, an official said here Monday.
"Under this policy, the import duty will be increased, so that the imported products' prices in the country will be the same as the domestic products'," the Directorate General of Customs, Agung Kuswandono, added.
The anti-dumping import duty is one of the four new policies that are included into the first package of President Joko Widodo's economic structural reform policies.
According to Agung, the additional import duty will increase the price of imported products and in turn change the structure of the imported commodities' prices, which previously were lower than the national industrial products' prices. "The dumping system used to make imported products' prices lower than the national ones undermine the domestic market. With this policy there will be fairness in trade," he said.
If there is an imported product subjected to dumping, the domestic industry can report to the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI). The institution will carry out an investigation, submit its report to the Ministry of Finance for the imposition of anti-dumping duties on these products.
He said that iron and steel were products that have often been used by importers for imposing their dumping interest and therefore their prices were often lower than domestic industrial products. The anti-dumping duty was actually proposed by industries and the Ministry of Industry a long time ago. (WDY)
