Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has been representing Indonesia in sending medical supplies and distributing logistics to the flood-affected victims in Kashmir, India.
According to a press release received by Antara in Jakarta, on Wednesday, Team Leader of ACT's Emergency Response Andhika Purbo Swasono stated that there were some challenges faced in accessing the locations and distributing the humanitarian aid.
One of the challenges posed was that the NGO was left with no option but to send the aid in two separate consignments.
"It is because of some rules that restricted the weight of the goods being sent," he noted.
Assisted by the Zakat Foundation of India (ZFI), ACT's first aid distribution was carried out on Wednesday (September 17) followed by the second one on Thursday (September 18) via a local airline.
The aid given to the flood-affected victims were milk, biscuits, drinking water, and medicines. ACT also provided medical services, which were facilitated by three doctors, four pharmacists, and five paramedics.
Swasono and one of his colleagues, Muhajir Arif, have already returned back to the country on Saturday (September 20) after spending a fortnight offering social assistance and distributing logistics in Srinagar, a location affected by the floods in Kashmir.
"I do hope that the Government of India builds a synergy with both the local and international NGOs to work hand-in-hand to help the victims of the most terrible floods to have struck India in the last 60 years. Solely, for the sake of humanity," he remarked. (WDY)
