"We have signed a security effort agreement for vital objects, which includes securing exploration trips, production, and distribution activities for oil and gas," said Chief of Papua Police Supervision Inspectorate Senior Commissioner Gde Sugianyar in an interview with Antara here on Saturday.
Sugianyar said the Papua Regional Police was ready to put several parts of the agreement into action. SKK Migas officers for Papua and Maluku had previously requested extra security efforts for the items covered in this agreement.
He added that the police would coordinate with the Indonesian military (TNI) in securing Papua's vital objects.
"Papua Police also expect cooperation from businesses with a Corporate Social Responsibility program," he stated.
Head of SKK Migas for Papua and Maluku Joseph R Karundeng said several oil and gas managing contractors had been visited to discuss the security efforts in Papua since these contractors required special monitoring in the region.
"We should conduct intensive meetings with the police to discuss important points related to the security efforts for oil and gas exploration and production," he said.
Karundeng did not divulge the total number of oil and gas companies currently operating in Papua. (*/DWA)
