Jakarta (Antara Bali) - General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is currently mourning the sudden death of her husband, will not host the annual Idul Fitri open house for well-wishers this year.
"Madam Megawati will hold a ceremony on September 15 to observe the death of her husband Taufiq Kiemas," Tjahjo Kumolo, secretary general of PDIP, relayed through an SMS here on Tuesday.
Taufiq Kiemas, speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly and senior politician for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, died following treatment for exhaustion at a Singapore hospital on June 7, 2013.
On Monday, Tjahjo Kumolo sent the SMS to announce that Megawati, who is also a former president of the republic of Indonesia, will not host an open house at her residence for Idul Fitri well-wishers this year.
The Idul Fitri holidays, which come after a month of fasting, will be celebrated next Thursday and Friday.
"The PDIP general chairperson sends her apologises and regrets that she will not be able to hold an open house for the public," Tjahjo said.
Tjahjo's initial message did not explain why the former president had decided not to host an open house for Idul Fitri as she usually did. (*/DWA)
