Batam (Antara Bali) - An investor from Queensland, Australia, is to build four jewellery factories in Batam island, spokesman of Batam island authority Ilham Eka Hartawan said here on Sunday.
"Products from the four factories will provide supply for international market. The factories will occupy a total of 130-150 hectares of land," Ilham said.
He added next March 13 the investor from Australia will meet with Batam authorities to discuss about the construction project.
Ilham noted Australian investor's plan to build factories in Batam is a good news for the area as local authorities predicted investment in Batam in 2014 will stagnate as Indonesia braces for general election.
On the first two month of 2013, Batam authority recorded a US$121.87 million-worth investment coming to the area from eight new investors and two existing investors who expand their companies' operation in Batam. (IGT)
