Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said he hopes other airlines to immediately take over the routes left by the defunct Batavia Air.
Batavia Air with a fleet of 33 aircraft, was declared bankrupt on Wednesday, favoring a petition by a US based leasing company International Lease Finance Corp. over a debt of US$4.68 million.
"As soon as possible Garuda Indonesia or other airlines should take over the routes," Hatta said here on Friday night.
The route should not be left idle so as not to cause problem in air transport service, he added.
He also asked the management of Batavia Air to immediately settle its liability in severance money for its workers.
The airline has also left hundreds of its ticket holders in various cities in the country stranded and in confusion on Thursday as they were not aware of the fate besetting the airline. (*/DWA/T007)
