Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The National Title Assessment Team and the social affairs minister have agreed nine names of noted figures to be proposed to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to be named national heroes.
"The social affairs minister has signed the team's proposal but the final decision is in the hands of the president," Hartono Laras, the director general for social empowerment and poverty elimination affairs, said here on Wednesday.
Hartono said a total of 15 names of persons had been proposed to be considered by the team. But the team only discussed 13 of the 15 names and decided nine of them to be proposed to the president.
The director general said there was still the possibility that the number of nine would still be reduced, depending on the president's decision.
In 2011, the president named national heroes seven persons, while in 2010, there were only two national figures who got the national hero title.(IGT/T007)
