Surabaya (Antara Bali) - Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono said poverty remains a homework for  the Indonesian nation to resolve together.

"The government has made every effort to eradicate poverty over the past three decades and managed to reduce the number of poor people significantly," he said after conducting a Ramadhan safari in Jember and Situbondo, East Java, on Saturday.

He noted that poverty eradication efforts need comprehensive, integrated and sustainable strategy by, among other things, involving the entire nation, including the business world.

"In essence, the involvement, commitment and cooperation of all parties are badly needed because poverty eradication is our common responsibility." he said.

The government has so far focused its poverty eradication efforts on various policies and programs aimed at fulfilling basic necessities such as food, education, healthcare, job opportunities, facilities and infrastructures, he said.(IGT)
