Palembang (Antara Bali) - The Palembang Immigration Control and Enforcement (Wasdakim) in South Sumatra are still after five Afghan illegal immigrants who escaped from their detention house in the early hours of Sunday.

"Now immigration personnel with the help of the police are continuing search for the escapees who have been arrested at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport in  Palembang on January 29, 2012, when seeking asylum from the UNHCR representative office in Jakarta," head of Wasdakim Tel Maizul Syatri said in Palembang Tuesday.

Tel Maizul said the security officers have bolstered the exists, and search hotels and similar facilities where the escapees may be hiding.

It has been predicted that they are still in Palembang and their escape to Jakarta to seek asylum from the UNHCR office in that country, he said.

He said the Palembang immigration authorities had already coordinated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to facilitate the ascaped Afghans for processing their asylum in Jakarta.(IGT)
