Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Cellular phone operator Indosat plans to build some 100 base transceiver stations (BTS) in the resort island of Bali this year to expand its covering networks.

"The additional BTS are designed to increase network capacity," I Wayan Gunarta, the company's coordinator of technical operations for Bali and Nusa Tenggara areas, said here on Sunday.

The BTS would chiefly be built in areas whose networks were quite busy such as tourist destination areas, he said.

He said some BTS in Bali had no good covering networks due to the topography of the world-renowned tourist island. They were located in Tabanan and Singaraja areas which are surrounded by mountains.

The BTS would be built in two stages. The first stage would comprise 30 to 35 units of BTS of new covering and the second stage would cover some 75 BTS of 3G, he said.(*)
